ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY

At SpecialtyCare, we build and support the field of neurodiagnostics and know that our Neurosonographers are the vital link between patients who need critical care and the doctors that are there to help. Neurosonographers utilize their expertise in cerebral vascular anatomy to perform TCD ultrasound testing to measure the rate and direction of blood flow inside arterial vessels. From newborn babies to adults, we provide round-the-clock care for patients in a diverse range of settings, including the operating room, intensive care units, epilepsy monitoring units, emergency rooms, and outpatient clinics.

TCD facilitates the diagnosis of a wide range of conditions affecting the brain following TIAs, embolisms, CVAs, vasospasm, subarachnoid hemorrhages, and Sickle Cell Disease.

As TCD provides rapid and real-time results, it is also an effective tool to assess perfusion during cerebrovascular procedures, such as Carotid Endarterectomies.

Deliver Results That Meet Your Surgeon’s High Standards

TCD offers real-time monitoring that enhances safety during CEA procedures, helping doctors intervene swiftly to prevent or manage potentially severe complications.

Early Detection of Brain Blood Flow Issues

TCD is a simple, non-invasive, and cost-effective test that helps identify patients at risk of reduced blood flow to the brain before Carotid Endarterectomy (CEA). This is crucial for deciding if selective shunting is needed during surgery.

Neuromonitoring During CEA

TCD provides real-time monitoring during CEA, detecting early signs of reduced blood flow (ischemia) or excessive blood flow (hyperperfusion), which could lead to complications like hemorrhage.

Immediate Intervention

If blood flow in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) significantly drops after CEA, TCD alerts surgeons to potential blockages inside the artery, allowing for prompt investigation and intervention.

Preventing Serious Complications

TCD is invaluable in spotting rare but serious complications like intracranial hemorrhage after CEA. Early post-operative TCD tests can quickly detect excessive blood flow, enabling immediate medical treatment if necessary.
