Sentient joins SpecialtyCare

October 28, 2016

On October 26, 2016, SpecialtyCare acquired Sentient, a highly regarded intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) provider. We’re thrilled to welcome the people of Sentient to our team. We believe we’ll be a great fit together, both clinically and culturally. Combining our talent and experience will enhance our collective strengths and create new opportunities to advance patient care and drive clinical quality, which reduce costs for our patients and customers.

Sentient has a great reputation. Their people, both in the operating room and behind the scenes, represent the company with great skill, professionalism, and dedication. These are the qualities we value and look for as we focus on hiring, training, and retaining the very best people that healthcare has to offer.

Our companies have much in common. Our neurophysiologists and physicians support the industry’s finest surgeons during the most complex procedures done today. We share very similar clinical philosophies, such as the way we evaluate clinical risk and then create a customized approach for each individual patient.

Our views on training and certification are similar, too—both companies have rigorous training programs in place, require CNIM certification, and assist with certification preparation. This focus on both initial and ongoing skill development provides the groundwork for industry-leading performance, continuous improvement, and clinical excellence.

We’re excited to enhance our service options in diagnostic and treatment therapies, such as deep brain stimulation and interventional neuroradiology, ICU trans-cranial Doppler evaluations, diagnostic EEG, and support of long-term EEG monitoring. Sentient’s additional case volume will increase the clinical data collected in our national multi-institutional database, the SpecialtyCare Operative Procedural Registry, SCOPE™, which is already the largest of its kind. Our collective base of more than 700 IONM customers and 2,300 surgeons will benefit from access to performance data via our interactive online dashboards, national benchmarking, and evidence-based best practices.

Like SpecialtyCare, the Sentient team does not sell “metal.” Our primary goal is to improve the delivery of healthcare for our patients and our customers. Our vision for intraoperative neuromonitoring care is patient centered and closely aligned. Above all, we share an intense commitment to ethical leadership and we’re completely dedicated to operating with integrity and maintaining comprehensive compliance programs that help protect our customers and patients from healthcare fraud, waste, and abuse.

The healthcare landscape is evolving quickly. Hospitals face more pressure than ever to improve quality and patient outcomes, comply with government regulations, and reduce operating costs, all in the face of value-based and bundled payments that can drive down reimbursements. Clinical outsourced services, like those provided by SpecialtyCare and Sentient, are a key strategic resource in helping hospitals rise to the challenge.

As we continue to grow the size of our IONM division, we have an increasing responsibility to define and advance clinical standards not only for our individual customers but also for the industry as a whole. With more than 500 IONM professionals in 32 states, we will continue to do just that. Check out our press release to learn more about how this acquisition benefits our customers and the future of intraoperative neuromonitoring care. We now move forward as one team and, together, we welcome the IONM challenges that come with the most difficult patient populations and the most complicated surgical interventions. It’s an exciting time to be part of this company and a privilege to serve the intraoperative neuromonitoring needs of our customers, surgeons, and patients.
