SpecialtyCare is currently hiring for IONM positions in the northern Virginia region. If you’re already a certified neurophysiologist with IONM experience on your belt, you should definitely look further into what we’re offering. But for now, join us as we review the top reasons why you should consider north Virginia as your new home.

Comfy Climate & Beaches

As far as the lines of longitude go in the United States, the northern Virginia region is smack dab in the middle of the country. This means you would get to experience all four seasons, but none of them too harshly. For example, average annual day time temperatures are in the comfy range (54 to 86 degrees) for 9 months out of the year.

And let’s not forget all the beach options running up the coast of the Chesapeake Bay for the summer season, whether it be Westmoreland State Park or another hotspot. Enjoy the the orange/yellow leaves in the fall and beautiful snowfall in the winter.

Shenandoah National Park

Whether you’re working in Arlington (voted the best city to live this year by Niche), Alexandria, Harrisonburg, Winchester, Woodstock, or anywhere else in the region, you’ll have local access to gorgeous Shenandoah National Park. Mostly forested and extending along the Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah offers a huge network of trails that includes a section of the long distance Appalachian Trail. It also features waterfalls, wetlands and rocky peaks such as Old Rag mountain and Hawksbill mountain. It’s home to many species including deer and the slippery black bear.

Day Trips & Weekend Getaways

It doesn’t really matter where you’re living in northern Virginia, you’re going to have easy access to Washington D.C. and Baltimore. Both are probably under an hour away from wherever your new home will be. Just think of the freedom you’ll have during on your days off or vacation time knowing that you could change out your small town scenery for the busy, buzzing streets of a major American city.

First off is Washington D.C., our nation’s capital. No matter what you do for entertainment, D.C. will have it. Anything major in the entertainment world runs through that city, whether it be a musical performer, popular play, an indie movie becoming a sleeper hit, a hot comedy act, or a festival of any kind. It’s also home to five professional sports teams, including recent Stanley Cup champions the Capitals.

Then you have the awesome city of Baltimore, known for its epic museums, beautiful harbor, and quirky neighborhoods. It, too, is home to some professional sports teams, the MLB Orioles and the NFL Ravens. Baltimore also has a hot live music scene, especially with punk, rock, and metal. If you don’t feel like driving to these cities, AmTrak’s got you covered with cheap train tickets and a relaxing ride.
