1) Low Cost of Living

Speaking of small town living, nothing beats the affordability of a cozy city with a population under 50,000. This is why Areavibes.com gives Cape Girardeau a solid B on their report card for cost of living, and an A+ for amenities. And according to bestplaces.net, the median cost of a home in Cape is $138,300, well below the national median of $219,700.  The average cost of a 1 bedroom apartment for rent is $575 a month, far lower than the U.S. average of $930 a month.  It’s also to note that smaller cities mean little to no traffic on the way to work at the hospital.

2) College Sports

While you may have to hop in the car and head to nearby St. Louis for a professional sports team (more on that in a minute), Cape Girardeau is still a college town, a proud home of Southeast Missouri State University. If you’re a sports fan, the Redhawks have got you covered with teams in baseball, basketball, and football. In fact, the SEMO football team just came off a record-breaking season and was proudly ranked in the top 20 in an Athlon Sports preseason poll. Redhawks also have women’s teams for volleyball, soccer, softball, tennis, and gymnastics.

3) Gorgeous Riverfront

The best part about the scenery in Cape is by far the Mississippi River. You can walk right down to the riverfront from downtown after a stroll through the streets. Downtown Cape is a combination of historic and upscale, with tons of restaurants and boutique shops to enjoy. Whether it’s biking along the river, jogging with a pet, or strolling with your significant other, enjoy the beautiful view throughout all four seasons and mostly mild temps from spring to fall.

4) St. Louis Road Trip

Need a break from the small city? Luckily for you, St. Louis is just less than 2 hours away. Any time you want to check out a show at one of their amazing live music venues or taste their classic American cuisine, all you have to do is hit the road. Go to Cardinals and Blues games any time, or even head south a few hours and check out the hopping town of Nashville, Tennessee. You’ll be close by when you train at SpecialtyCare University at our Nashville headquarters.
