Austin, Texas is recently and quickly becoming a hot new opportunity spot for SpecialtyCare perfusionists after a new partnership with HCA St. David’s was announced a few weeks ago. “My first time in Austin was for my interview, and I fell in love,” says Erica, who has lived and worked in the city for a little more than three years. “There is so much to do downtown and in north Austin. And so much greenery, trails, and water activities, all close to downtown!”

Erica chose to become a perfusionist for the obvious reason: to help take care of patients. She always knew, though, that she wanted to grow into leadership, which her new promotion now allows her to do.

“I am looking forward to leading a team of perfusionists, and I’m excited to see how we grow together in this new account,” she said. “Having good outcomes and being a part of a team that saves lives is unlike anything else. Aside from that, it is also rewarding to lead and mentor others, including new grads and students, and see them progress in their careers and show passion for what we do.”

Like Erica, Carter also has aspired to grow into leadership and is now moving from Minnesota to Austin to take on his new role.

“I am excited to join the SpecialtyCare perfusion team at St. David’s in Austin,” said Carter. “For the past four years, I’ve been based in Minnesota, where I have served as the Chief of Perfusion at two Level 1 trauma centers in the Twin Cities. My wife is also a perfusionist, and we are both thrilled to embrace this new opportunity in Austin.”
