Beer and Sports

Known as “brew city,” absolutely no other town can beat out Milwaukee when it comes to a cold one. Pabst, Schlitz, Miller, and Blatz all originate here. There are more than 30 breweries in the city and surrounding areas, and the craft beer scene is exploding. Whether it’s going on one of the infamous brewery tours or strolling through the lakefront breweries, there’s always beer to be had on any given day or night when you’re off from the hospital.

As for sports, it’s hard to beat the options Milwaukee has to offer. You have the Brewers for MLB fans, the Bucks for NBA fans, and just 90 minutes north are NFL multi-champions, the Green Bay Packers. Milwaukee has shuttles that will take you to the games. Speaking of 90 minutes, Chicago is also only an hour and a half away as well. That gives you access to the Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs, White Sox and the Bears. But, if you’re a Bears fan and moving to Milwaukee, you may want to keep that on the down-low. Don’t feel like driving to Chi-town? The Hiawatha train will get you there while you relax and enjoy their WiFi feature.

Music Scene and Beaches

As far as music goes, you’re in for a treat. Milwaukee is home to Summerfest, the largest annual music festival in the world (actually certified by the Guinness Book of World Records). Made up of 11 stages with performances from over 800 acts over 11 days, Summerfest attracts 800,000 to 900,000 people every year. It runs from late June through early July, usually covering the July 4 weekend. No matter who your favorite music acts are, chances are they’re playing at Summerfest.

Other attractions with the festival include comedy acts, fireworks, shopping vendors and a variety of food from local restaurants. Oh, and did we mention it’s along the lakefront? If you’re not into big festivals, you can always check out the lineups at the three major ballrooms in town: the Pabst, Turner, and Riverside. The Rave and Shank Hall will also keep you on your toes with local acts all year round.

In case you aren’t familiar with the region, Milwaukee snuggles up against Lake Michigan, offering some major beach action. Relax in a tiki hut or play some volleyball at Bradford Beach, or take in the breathtaking views at Atwater Beach and South Shore Beach.
