Anesthesia technology is a distinct health profession that focuses on the necessary clinical procedures that assist the anesthesia provider in the safe and efficient care of patients. From routine to complex cases, our anesthesia technicians’ acute attention to detail and ability to multitask makes them an invaluable asset to the nurses and other medical staff on the anesthesia care team. Their role in making surgery safer for patients is crucial, as they are on the front lines each day ensuring anesthesia equipment is prepared and ready for surgery.
Anesthesia care clinicians monitor and support patient’s vital functions during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, from endoscopy to radiosurgery. These professionals are vital members of the overall anesthesia care team, applying, acquiring, preparing, and troubleshooting the various types of equipment required for the delivery of anesthesia care. They often must call upon their human anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology knowledge while providing the vital clinical functions of proper anesthesia care.
As a profession, anesthesia technology is commonly divided between two certified groups:
Certified Anesthesia Technicians (Cert.A.T.)
Certified Anesthesia Technologists (Cert.A.T.T.)
The American Society of Anesthesia Technologist & Technicians (ASATT) recognizes only those individuals who have passed their ASATT National Certification Exam (NCE) through an accredited or otherwise approved educational program.
