The Rockies

Is there any beating the view of the Rockies? There really is nothing like it. From ski resorts to national parks, Denver takes full advantage of its mountainous surroundings. If you’re an avid skier, there are a whopping 15 ski resorts within reasonable driving distance of Denver. From Echo Mountain to Eldora Mountain, there’s fresh powder as far as the eye can see during peak season. But for those of you that aren’t fans of winter weather, Denver has a well-kept secret: it’s sunny 300 days out of the year. In fact, it can get quite warm from May to October, with average daily temperatures reaching 86 to 92 degrees in the summer months.

Then there’s Rocky Mountain National Park, which is just a few short hours from Denver. Spanning the Continental Divide, the park is 415 miles of pure bliss for outdoor explorers. The Trail Ridge Road and the Old Fall River Road take you past the aspen trees and rivers. The Keyhole Route, a climb crossing vertical rock faces, leads up Longs Peak, which is the park’s tallest mountain. A trail surrounding Bear Lake offers views of the peaks. Denver also has bike lovers covered all over the city by offering Denver B Cycle, a city-wide bike sharing system. Stations are located all over town and bikes can be accessed and returned at all of them.

There’s Always Something to Do

To kick things off as far as things to do, let’s start with a friendly reminder that all four major sports are represented in Denver. You have the Broncos for football, Avalanche for hockey, the Nuggets for basketball, and the Rockies for baseball. They even host the Colorado Mammoth, their professional lacrosse team. But if you’re not a sports person, there are still plenty of other options for entertainment.

How about a concert at the infamous Red Rocks Amphitheater, or a visit to gorgeous Botanic Gardens or the Denver Zoo. Denver is also a craft beer mecca, and the Great Divide Brewery in downtown Denver is just one of many hotspots with amazing beer, a tap room, and a brewery tour. You can also check out the neighborhood of Cherry Creek North that’s lined with shops and restaurants like the popular Cherry Cricket, which features an ice skating rink for a ceiling.
