SpecialtyCare Perfusionist Shannon Barletti Receives Cardiothoracic Surgery Symposium’s Top Award: The 2021 Swain Scholarship

SpecialtyCare is thrilled to share that Shannon Barletti, BSN, RN, CCRN, CCP, a perfusionist on our Thomas Jefferson University Hospital team in Philadelphia, has been awarded the 2021 Swain Scholarship! Shannon was selected from a pool of highly qualified applicants to receive this award and will present her talk titled: “Coagulopathy Monitoring and Anticoagulation Management of COVID ECMO Patients: A Multidisciplinary Study” at CREF’s upcoming conference, September 22-26, 2021.

The Swain Scholarship is named in honor of CREF Course Director Julie A. Swain, MD, and is awarded to an outstanding perfusion student or recent graduate. Prior to entering perfusion school, Shannon worked as a cardiothoracic ICU nurse. She received her CCP certification in November 2020 and is currently working on SpeicaltyCare’s perfusion team at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Shannon is a previous recipient of SpecialtyCare’s Brown-Brukardt Perfusion Scholarship and is heavily involved in SpecialtyCare’s research initiatives while also leading efforts to assist current perfusion students with career development resources.

“It is a true honor to be chosen as the 2021 CREF Swain Scholarship recipient,” said Shannon Barletti. “I am thankful for Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, SpecialtyCare, and all of the many multidisciplinary healthcare heroes who have made this research possible and helped me grow during my first year as a perfusionist; I am excited to present our work at the CREF conference.”
