Celebrating Healthcare HR Week Part 2: HR Business Partner, Credentialing, Compensation Business Partner

Healthcare Human Resources Week – the third week of March – is designated to recognize human resources professionals in health care organizations across the nation for their important role across the continuum of care. We are excited to recognize SpecialtyCare’s awesome People Team for the critical role they play in supporting our teams across the country!

We sat down with members of our SpecialtyCare Human Resources to share answers to questions such as the role they play in the department, how their role fits into the important mission and vision of SpecialtyCare, and what propelled them to pursue a role in human resources and specifically healthcare.

Megan Shaffer

What is your role in the Human Resources Department?

I am a Compensation Business Partner within our HR Department.

What do you love about your role and how it fits into the impactful mission and vision of SpecialtyCare?

I found my way into Compensation after having the opportunities to explore various areas within the HR function through projects during my first role out of Graduate School. Ensuring associates are competitively compensated and aligning with the Company’s goals is a line I enjoy balancing as it proves to be challenging yet rewarding.

What propelled you to pursue a career in Human Resources and specifically healthcare?

The Compensation function allows me to not only evaluate and tell the stories that data provides but also collaborate and interact with associates across the organization to strategically navigate the Company within a dynamic industry.

What is your role in the Human Resources Department?

My current role is HR Business Partner and as the name suggests my primary responsibility is to “partner” with individuals at every level of the organization to support our associates throughout each phase of their employment with SpecialtyCare. I work alongside our IONM leaders to make effective decisions to lead and engage their teams. Additionally, I have the opportunity to partner with my colleagues who make up our entire People Team to ensure our associates are supported through talent, compensation, benefits, and performance.

What do you love about your role and how it fits into the impactful mission and vision of SpecialtyCare?

As I work through HR functions and procedures, my goal is to ensure our dedicated clinicians are in the best position to carry out our mission to positively impact the lives of countless patients. By collaborating with our operations leaders and working through HR strategies to best support their teams, we are all working together to support the needs of the best part of SpecialtyCare which is our people.

What propelled you to pursue a career in Human Resources and specifically healthcare?

Many times HR professionals say human resources were not their intended career choice and my path into the field certainly falls into this category. While working in other positions, I found that some of the job responsibilities I was naturally drawn to like one on one performance conversations, implementing consistent policies, and helping individuals to see alternative sides of issues were useful skills in the HR profession. I was very fortunate that an HR leader in healthcare took a chance on me and hired me for an entry-level HR position which was the start of a great career fit for me.

What is your role in the Human Resources Department?

I am the Director of Credentialing and Accreditation in the HR Department.

What do you love about your role and how it fits into the impactful mission and vision of SpecialtyCare?

I love that I get to contribute and ensure that each patient has a competent physician or clinician there to take care of them. I am not cut out to personally deliver clinical care, but I get to contribute in my own way with my team to credential the providers and make sure they are able to access the hospitals to care for the patients.

What propelled you to pursue a career in Human Resources and specifically healthcare

I actually fell into a credentialing role and never looked back, it is always a daily challenge and almost like a puzzle we get to solve each and every day. No day is the same. I love the challenge and the rewards of all we do each day.
